“Vera (Mrs. Vladimir Nabokov)” by Stacy Schiff Published: April 2000 ISBN: 0375755349
 (Updated: May 25, 2004.)
Being rather relieved (unfortunately) to have finished Villa Incognito, this book is now my new “current book”.
I’m not exactly sure why I picked it up but on looking at the cover and seeing the following quote from The New York Times…
“An elegantly nuanced portrait of the artist’s wife, showing us just how pivotal Nabokov’s marriage was to his hermetic existence and how it indelibly shaped his work.”
I imagine it was the combination of the words “artist”, “marriage” and “hermetic” that caught my attention. (Definitely an intriguing-to-me state of being.)
I will certainly let you know how I find it, so… à suivre…
Update: Well, much as I don’t like not giving a book a chance, I don’t like not looking forward to reading it even more. I have put this book aside after page 40. Perhaps in another moment I will be able to be engaged by it. |
