“Confessions of a Shopaholic” by Sophie Kinsella Published: November 2003 ISBN: 0440241413
(Updated: November 25, 2004.)
It’s funny… although I am oh-so-very much in search of lighter, please-feel-good reading these days, this book by it’s title represents a topic that I can imagine to be hilarious but that at the same time makes me nervous to delve into.
Now I am certainly not a shopaholic in the what I consider to be "traditional" sense of the word… but… the hours and hours I spend pouring over beads and gems and tools and equipment are almost not countable. And, all of this "pouring" does indeed cause me to have quite a "relationship" with my credit card :o)
And books. Books are indeed another of those "things" that I find completely irresistible to the point of being a weakness. I actually have to prepare myself mentally and financially before going into a bookstore.
And, thinking of that, I guess my children and their wishes fall into this category too.
And, well, there are hardware stores. And art supply stores. I mean "Look at this! With this I could do/make/think…"
And on it goes.
Yes :o)
So… as I suspected, this book opens with a letter from a bank to a woman about to graduate from university offering a line of credit. And, so the adventure begins…
And although I did recognize some of the "reasoning" that can go on around "buying", I found this book what? Rather boring actually. It does pick up a bit at the end when it turns as would most fairy tales but for the most part I found the main character irritating rather than charmingly funny.
My rating then… 1 out of 5 hearts. |
