“…life begins at the end of your comfort zone.”

Hmmm… I just finished reading this and I kind of have the same reaction as I do when watching political advertisements that only serve to discredit “other”. Notably… I do not appear to share many views, opinions or beliefs with Sarah Palin. I actually stayed awake through the last US presidential election thinking… okay… “hoping” that if I “watched” the outcome would be that Bush would not be re-elected. I certainly hope that Obama is elected this time round. And/but… I continue to believe that it is our (any of us and each of us) privilege to think as we think. And… until this is understood, until this is accepted, we will continue to need to come up with lists of “rights” (”that which is just, morally good, legal, proper, or fitting”) to protect this what-should-be “fact”.

“Democracy fails because the results are what voters want.” This is a paraphrase of something Dr. Bryan Caplan author of The Myth of the Rational Voter (for an essay version see here) said this morning in an interview on CBC radio. The subject of the interview was fascinating.

At 8 pm on March 29, 2008…

Last night I went to an information session at my son’s school for parents of students in either their last or second-to-last year of high school. (It is my son’s last year and, yes, this is the same school mentioned in my The Prepared Mind article.) The idea was that we-the-parents learn about the application process for the next step in our children’s education. This morning, I am once again working my way out of the loop that this set me on.

I learned of Mr. Vonnegut’s passing yesterday. I am still amazed that no one called to gently tell me even though I can’t think of who that someone might have been.
