Introduction PDF Print E-mail

The work presented here began as simply a sampling of “current work”. And given that I’ve discovered that I really like sharing “my stuff”, this has over time turned into a collection of series.

The “series” part both is and isn’t surprising to me. When I work on these, they come out/evolve/move onwards in sequence. Sometimes there are tangents, sometimes there are false roads but the forward movement is pretty constant and I usually know when it is that I am finished. Also, I usually know which of the images are “the images” — in my mind at least — of the series but this is less clear than the “finished” part :o)

I am definitely a “process” sort. I am definitely “context is everything” type. And I also like to let people make up their own minds about things, so when I post a series of work I usually post at the very least the key steps along the way, even if the path isn’t “straight” :o)

For 05… "Series I" comes "out of the ether" and is a visual "journal" of sorts."Series II" was inspired by some of the textures that surround me as I sit here at the computer. The third series, "textures", is made up of photographs taken during a vacation on Prince Edward Island. "Ice" and "more ice" come out of an incredibly cold winter. "Heartprints" comes from textures that I so know and love at my parents’.

For 06… "Stirrings" comes from tugs and pulls and, what feels like, taps on my shoulder. These lead to "Listenings", coming from I’m-still-not-sure-where. The base of the "Collective Spirit" works is a scanned ink drawing and this series definitely falls into my “whole/parts” life theme :o) "Exuberance" and "Series III" are still "in progress" and are definitely part of a pretty big shift in my approach to myself and my life. "Oak Leaves" comes from a wonderful fall moment and the most recent, "Of Light", comes from photographs of shadows (which always feel like dancing light to me :o)

For 07… "Waiting / In Family" comes from a recognition of sorts. The base photographs were taken over the holidays during an early morning snowfall. I still can’t quite articulate the recognition part but it was rather profound. And reassuring. And bittersweet. And oh so quiet. The kind of quiet that is full of closeness and truths and rawness and is shared.

There are more notes and bits of information on the various series and pieces within the different sections. I certainly hope that you enjoy looking around.
