This site is based on Joomla!, a freely distributed, open sourced, content management system. This software — from the mission behind it, through the values and concerns underlying its development, through the community that supports it and into the end results — is the development I have been waiting for in the “web world”. If you don’t know about this software, do take some time to check it out. It is pretty amazing.

Design:

As is true for the software extensions, there are lots of templates available for Joomla!. I have tried a couple and found that useful, powerful “basics”, flexibility in application (the more modules the better :o), good HTML and CSS work (meaning clean, commented, Joomla!-aware and easily customizable code) and good support (read “open, friendly, accessible and quick”) are absolutely key if you are going to invest time and effort on top of someone else’s work. Based on my criteria, the current design of my site is based on a Rocket Theme template named BentoBox.
